Square Coke = A Greener Coke
CSS student Andrew Kim took on the task of redesigning the iconic Coca-Cola bottle in the name of Eco-friendliness. What resulted was a surprisingly minimal and physically efficient design.
Aside from the square design (which takes up far less room and can be stackable) the bottles were created with a ribbed feature in order to allow compression, saving even more space when taken for recycling.
A very impressive and well thought out design concept.
Aesthetically more pleasing for those with a more contemporary taste.
However, the shape of the bottle is exactly what has created a strong part of Coca-Cola’s identity including our world’s pop culture. When you see that shape it automatically correlates with the brand. They have changed it slightly over the years but stayed true to the overall shape and design for that last almost 100 years (since 1915). Such a change would be highly unlikely as it could ultimately have a massive negative impact.
